The plot of the story is about a kid called Greg Heffley who comes back from summer vacation and ingress to a new school as a 6 grader. His older brother Rodrick knows his biggest secret and he's afraid if he upsets Rodrick, he will tell everybody Greg's secret.
The theme of the story is Always stand up for yourself. The school and Rodrick bullied Greg and no matter how big that bully was he always stands up for himself and Rowley. For example, he always stood up for himself even when he made mistakes.
Based on the author's tone and all his humor that he used in the story, I image his morning routine is a lot of fun and he shows at the beginning of the story when the boys wear swim trunks instead of those skimpy racing trunks. I think the author used this part to show his funny side. Also when Greg and his older brother Rodrick’s were in charge of the house and Rodrick called every friend he knew to have a party in his house, the funniest part is when Rodrick told Greg to bring some ices out of the downstairs freezer and locked Greg because he doesn't want younger brother in his party. I think Greg’s character shows the author's life.
The author's tone is very creative and comic when he shows the reader his own personification to create his own cartoons. this helps the reader to understand diction for example if the author used vocabulary unknown a drawing or picture can help to understand the lecture better.
